Yeah that was a bit confusing trying to find that email.

In Joomla 1.5 the user needs to be assigned to the Joomla group 'administrator' to get access to the module-manager. The advanced module manager uses the same, but does not display a nice message about this, just a blank screen. I made test_carsten an 'administrator' again, and got in.

With AUA you can restrict access to the editting in the backend of the whole advancedmodulemanager component. Not parts of it.
In AUA config > 'component access' select the component, save config, go to 'component access' and set rights.
